Outwit. Outplay. Outlast

Sounds familiar, yeah, that’s Survival slogan. In primary school, I think Survival was like the must-watch. But with each passing season, I guess the novelty sort of died down.

Okay, I admit, at one point of time, I thought it would be pretty cool to be on the game. It looks pretty fun to be engaged in a game which pits the strong against the weak, the unscrupulous around the unsuspecting.

Who ever thought 10 years down the road, I would be in the game of Survival? I am in the true-blue reality version. Too bad, I don’t have 1 million dollars up for grab. So, seriously, why are we playing so ruthlessly?

You know, what really intrigue me about the game Survival? It’s about how the team dynamics changes. It’s about how each player position himself to ensure survival. And what is more interesting is that back at home, everybody is a nice good folk. Just that when they are in this game show, they are here to win. And everyone starts to show their claws and their nasty side. Some play the good cops, others just play the queen bee.

Now looking back, Survival pretty much reflects the way life is. I believe most of us are really sweet as an individual. But when thrown in an environment where only the “best” survive, we all seem to lose our innocence. Our moral and values fly out of the window as we eliminate competitors that are too strong for their own good. It’s no longer a case of “the fittest survive”. In fact, you probably got to act a little vulnerable to last a little longer. We form and switch alliances, changing sides as the situation changes. When I was 12, I would deem that as an act of backstab. Now, I just pretty much take it in my stride since it’s a part and parcel of life.

The only difference between the reality and the reality show is that in this game there is more than one winner and the participants just keep changing. Whether it is in a classroom or an office, Survival is being staged constantly. Maybe it is becoming more of a case whether you see it or you don’t. But one thing for sure, you are playing it, perhaps subconsciously.

Well, it isn’t really that bad. I mean to console ourselves; at least we don’t have to live in a god-forsaken place. At least we have food to eat, water to drink, and a toilet to bathe. But of course, in return, we are stuck in this game eternally.
Outwit? Outplay? Outlast? Am I ready for a game that last me for a lifetime?
